Shared Territory: Writing Bartley Water

mark ranger is the editor and co-founder of fragments press. he’s been working on this version of shared territory for three years, and is delighted to finally release the book in april 2026. this memoir/nature writing hybrid is as much about friendship as it is the landscapes through which bartley water flows. the book follows mark from the mouth of this unassuming river opposite southampton docks, through the subrubs, farmland and the new forest national park to its various sources on the open heath. shared territory explores contemporary social issues in a subtle way, blending questions about our world with observations of spring wildlife and lighthearted stories from local people who join the walk.
